Community Coordinator & Social Media Editor

General Description       

Are you a digital native? Do you have trouble distinguishing yourself from your mobile device? Do you live and breathe social media? If you said “Yes” to any of these questions, then think about this: Do you want to help change the world using these communications tools?

Reporting directly to the Senior Director, Digital Strategy, the Community Manager/Social Media Editor works to cultivate and enhance relationships with social media audiences both organically and via paid methods. You’ll have a hands-on role in inspiring our community of supporters to take action. We need someone who can identify opportunities and innovative ways to communicate awareness and solutions to the nation’s toughest environmental problems. Day to day, you’ll be the primary voice to manage and contribute to TWS social media channels on Facebook, Twitter, & Instagram.

This position plays an important role in supporting an inclusive organizational culture that is grounded in trust and accountability to shared goals and outcomes. TWS has made diversity, equity, and inclusion strategic priorities for the organization and the Community Manager & Social Media Editor will integrate these priorities throughout our digital work, including customized content to lesser served communities where the messages may be in English and Spanish and other voices as needed. Ability to find creative solutions to reach emerging audiences is essential. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on daily management of TWS Facebook, Twitter accounts, with some assistance on Instagram, as needed
  • Cultivates and identifies key influencers on our various social media platforms, engages them to increase reach, engagement and membership.
  • Engages Facebook community in key states by creating and managing local event invitations, managing RSVPs and setting up local action items and Facebook ads for state-specific needs.
  • Develop and execute strategies for maximizing audience engagement and user-generated content campaigns on all of TWS social media channels
  • Manage and moderate comment threads, responding to and engaging with our digital audience
  • Monitor breaking news and social conversation, crafting creative and responsive social media messages and memes that illuminate key TWS positions in real time
  • Provide strategic social media guidance and project management support for advocacy campaigns, including project intake, scheduling, launch/execution and quality control
  • Live tweet big news events like relevant cabinet, presidential speeches, protests, and other shared cultural milestones with an TWS-infused point of view
  • Produce live social media coverage of on-the-ground events, such as marches, protests, conferences or other relevant events
  • Review, monitor, collect, and report analytics data for key social media accounts
  • Monitor social media industry news and trends to find new opportunities or challenges

 

QUALIFICATIONs

 

 

  • 2-3 years of experience in a social media or engagement role, preferably at a news organization, political campaign, nimble nonprofit, or agency that requires rapid response capability
  • Proficiency in Facebook, Twitter, Instagram
  • Excellent writing skills, with the ability to adopt the “tone” of TWS, while also incorporating personality and authenticity
  • Strong strategic and tactical editorial skills
  • Hands-on experience with social media tools such as Google Analytics, CrowdTangle, Bitly, Sprout Social, ActionSprout, Hootsuite Enterprise, or Tweetdeck
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple projects and shifting requests
  • Proficient with web content managements systems (CMS) for web publishing, specifically Drupal and Engaging Networks.
  • Familiarity with creating and launching geo-targeted and paid social media campaigns
  • Experience organizing and managing live online events, such as Facebook Live, Twitter Q&A’s, etc.

  • Flexibility related to time zones and work hours is essential as Social Media is a 24/7 operation.
