Opportunity: The Fashion School at Kent State University seeks strong candidates for a full-time, 12-month, non-tenure-track practitioner faculty member to directly support the school's TechStyleLAB management, beginning in Spring 2018.

The Fashion School offers outstanding state-of-the-art facilities for teaching and connecting with the fashion industry and alumni; the TechStyleLAB research/learning and commercial technology laboratory; the Fashion School Store, a live retail environment located in downtown Kent; direct partnership with the KSU Fashion Museum, housing nearly 40,000 pieces in their collection and eight fantastic exhibition spaces; an exceptional Fashion Library with trend/archival and trade resources; and the NYC Studio and Florence Italy campuses for semester-long study away experiences, plus a curricular partnership with the Paris American Academy. The 'TechStyleLAB' is located in the Fashion School to support learning/teaching, research and commercial investigation of digital design and production technologies in the fashion context. The goal of the TechStyleLAB is to create a model for exploring more localized, sustainable and creative digital supply chains for the fashion industry. A key impact of the TechStyleLAB concept lies in demonstrating how digital design and manufacturing software/hardware can be used in conjunction with rich media interfaces to create dynamic workflows for the on-demand production of textile/fashion products.

Responsibilities include integrating state-of-the-art textile/fashion technologies in the learning process, supporting students, researchers and commercial clients to explore the technology and develop innovative products and businesses. Serve as liaison to external partners and clients for projects related to the TechStyleLAB. Enact the TechStyleLAB vision through daily management of the TSLAB environment. Teach courses, as needed, to support curricular programs in fashion related to TechStyleLAB technologies. Participate in School, College and University advising and service as appropriate.

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with minimum of five years' relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree. Strong knowledge of existing and emerging digital design and output technologies in the textile/fashion industries. Ability to oversee forecasting and budgeting processes. Experience with communicating commercial technology ideas both publicly and to private funding agencies. Experience working with Adobe Creative Suite and/or Lectra, Optitex, other CAD software. Evidence of teaching record at college level with abilities/interests in large format and lab settings along with industry and pedagogical technologies. Experience working collaboratively with academic departments and in the community. Knowledge of on-demand supply chain models. In addition to the above qualifications, any experience with supervising undergraduate/graduate students in fashion, and/or prior industry employment/partnership experiences are strongly desirable.
