Annex Automation & Operations Manager, University Libraries

  • Responsible for overall inventory control and storage of materials, including reconciliation with various systems including the existing inventory system and the integrated library system (Alma).
  • Manages ingest, retrieval, and withdrawal of library material from the Annex.
  • Facilitates formal problem solving, root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective actions for all inventory discrepancies or related process failures in both the existing inventory system and Alma, the Libraries integrated library system.
  • In conjunction with the Head of Delivery Services, coordinates and manages the responsibilities and duties of all operations in the Annex to establish priorities, develop policies and procedures, and formulate special projects.
  • Makes recommendations and implements changes that improve process effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Supervises staff charged with inventory management and Annex operations.
  • Operates a high-lift order picker to retrieve and shelve library materials housed in the Annex collection; this can occur at elevations up to and including 32 feet.
  • Ensures all Annex staff complete in annual safety and operational certification on high-lift order picker equipment.
  • Establishes safety regulations in the workplace according to OSHA standards and departmental guidelines.
  • Works to promote a safe and positive team environment which supports effective and responsive services.

  • Manages the implementation of an automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) to ensure optimal functionality resulting in effective and efficient storage and retrieval of library materials.
  • Works closely with the ASRS implementation team, the ASRS vendor, Campus Planning, Environmental Health & Safety, Libraries Facilities, and University Facilities to carry out planned phases of installation.
  • Remains current with robotic inventory technologies and best practices to cement a strong partnership with the automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) vendor.
  • Works closely with the automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) vendor to perform routine and preventative maintenance for both the grid and robotic systems.
  • Responsible for maintaining dual inventory systems until migration and consolidation is complete.
